albums I listened to all the way through
posted this week and every week (3)
*For the week of February 9th-February 15th, 2015*
I am deep in the throes of the February blues already.
For some reason, I can never truly enjoy this time of year. Be it seasonal depression, less sunlight, or just withering away in the frozen tundra that is New York right now, I am constantly faced with my own mortality. It stares at me, unblinking, from the snow-covered hills and leaves me breathless.
This is the first year I fully grasp and understand the Landslide lyrics, “Time makes you bolder/Children get older/I’m getting older too.” Sure, I was definitely the eight-year-old listening to my mom’s MP3 player in the backseat and crying to a song I hadn’t fully lived yet. Now though? I’m teetering on the edge of 30 and somehow feel as old and as young as I’ve ever felt.
I listened to that Slowdive album as I walked the 20 or so blocks from Grand Central Station to Columbus Circle. As is typical of the weekend in Manhattan, the 7 train wasn’t running, so I decided to brave the falling snow and get to 59th Street my own way. Having lived here for three years, I’m not one to dwell on the majesty of this place. I tend to avoid the touristy places and stick to my set routines. However, the Slowdive album, coupled with the bitter-cold walk along the bottom of Central Park, gave me the courage to snap a few photos of this city I call home.
Life’s too short not to enjoy the everyday beauty around you, you know?
Thanks to Substackers grayson | gemini zines, Ghostcat, and Dave McGovern for the great break-up album recommendations!

Oh man that Peter Bjorn and John album was on heavy rotation when I was like 17, that takes me back
I used to play "Young Folks" all the time in my early 20's. Depressing that it's that long ago now. 😵
