albums i listened to all the way through
posted this week and every week (25)
After a stressful medical procedure and the canceled flight from hell, I must admit—I didn’t get to listen to as much music as I wanted this past week. It’s funny actually. Despite my not having the time/opportunity to devote to my regularly scheduled programming, music followed me everywhere.
While I was waiting to go into the OR for the procedure, a nurse outside started belting “In The Air Tonight.” At first, I was like “Fuck, this existential song is going to fill my propofol nightmares.” Then, I realized.
Oh, shit. I have been waiting for this moment (this procedure) for all my life. Oh lord.
Hearing a Phil Collins drum solo in your head as your head lulls and the recovery nurse wheels you to the recovery room to sit under a blanket with a warm jet is kind of surreal. Why this song followed me into the depths of my general anesthesia, I do not know.
I wish Oliver Sacks was still alive so I could ask him what it means.
While stuck on the tarmac during the grounded flight from Tartarus, I started reading Chris Frantz’s memoir. As a Tina Weymouth enthusiast, I was curious to read all about their decades-long relationship and musical journey. As a cheapskate, I was happy to see it was one of the more inexpensive books available in the music section at The Strand.
A few weeks back, Andy’s Weird Ohio and I were driving around Pittsburgh and wondering if there were any famous musicians from there. For the most part, we came up empty. That is—until I started reading this book and realized Chris Frantz’s dad was from Pittsburgh and moved them there after he left active service in the US Army.
So, at least a bonafide member of Talking Heads is from Pittsburgh.
I bet my subscribers could educate us youngsters about all the cool musicians from the Pittsburgh area. Please feel free to let us know in the comments.
Anyway—the flight. Of course, I was flying out of LaGuardia at the exact wrong time (4pm during a thunder storm). So, I guess that’s partially on me for trying to save myself the headache of getting up at 5am to fly out at 8am. Still, it inevitably got canceled and I had to get my butt back to Manhattan to stay a few extra nights before flying out today.
Yay?
The pilot said “Unfortunately” so many times over the course of three hours that I am honestly grateful for the delay. Better safe than sorry!
Anyway, I’m headed to North Carolina for the week for a much-needed rest and relaxation trip away from the city. Unsure how active I will be on here but I’ll be back next Sunday with a new albums newsletter :D
Here are the albums and EPs I listened too all the way through this past week:
